Do you think you really know a story? A fairy tale perhaps. This is the modern story of Beauty and the Beast completely re-imagined…forget everything you thought you knew…
“Thorns” is a three-part trilogy story/art by Jessa Sininger.
A century’s old vagabond prince under a deadly curse. He has spent his life struggling to hide from the demons that hunt him and to find a cure to rid him of his monstrous form. Time has made him extremely cautious and shut off from the world he has come to find himself in now.
A coffee shop girl studying to work in theater. She grew up loving fairy tale’s and myths but suppressed it after loosing her parents at a young age having to face the harsh realities she was thrown into.
Although this is Jessa Sininger’s first graphic novel she is no stranger to the media/film business having worked in feature film, television, and gaming. Some of her credits include Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, Night at the Museum2, and Gears of War 2. She has always had a pencil in her hand since she was young and sketches at any chance she gets. Having almost gone into writing for a degree she was pushed into being an artist and has been thankful for the nudge feeling that it is her true calling. This graphic novel has given her a chance to combine her love for writing and art. She currently resides in California where she continues to create and nurture her paper cuts with children’s band-aids.

Well it’s no surprise that I have been a fan of original fairy tales and myths all my life. Thorns started out as a simple idea for a series of sketches featuring two very opposite people hanging out at a bookstore together. It escalated from there.

It draws inspiration from the original story of Beauty and the Beast by Jeanne-Marie Le Prince de Beaumont.

No, I work in the Feature Film Industry in Animation. Comics are something I do in my free time.

I did go to an art school but my main focus was in animation. I never took any comic classes (there were none offered even if I wanted to). I’m self taught on the comic front which is why you see more of an animated look and approach to my comic style.
Do you have any tips for making a Comic?
Please visit here where I show my tips and techniques.
Do you have any other Webcomics out there?
I currently have another ongoing Webcomic called Apartment 4311.
May I do Fanart based on your characters?
Yes, I enjoy seeing Fanart! Send it to me and I will put it in the Gallery section (please make sure it’s appropriate though-thanks!) I ask that you please credit/link back to me so others can see Thorns as well.
Will you give me any feedback on my project?
I keep a very busy schedule with the projects I’m currently involved with. The best thing you can do is to try. However, no promises that I will get to every one. Please don’t take it personally either. I barely have a social life as it is.
